We heard direct from Renault this week during a PR briefing on the new ZOE EV, that if you fall behind with your monthly battery lease payment, they can actually switch the battery off remotely; by stopping it from charging.

It took a bit of pushing to get them to answer this, no doubt its something they don’t like to mention in the showrooms!

Further research has found that this was first reported back in March here. Renaults partner, Nissan have also moved to battery leasing recently, we cant find any mention of the same system, but it must be the fitted in the 2013 Leaf.
