Jaguar’s all conquering F-Type hyperbole machine has received yet more features at the LA Motor Show with the announcements of all-wheel drive and manual transmission versions.
The new arrivals stretch the range of possible layouts for your two-seater to a whopping 14 and see the introduction of electric power steering across the range.
At the base of the range will now be the 335bhp V6 powered through the new manual gearbox. This will be available in both coupe and convertible form, and should give the purest driving experience the F can offer.
At the top of the range the stunning 542bhp V8 motor will now be available in both bodystyles and can be routed through all four wheels for maximum traction.
In order to integrate that four-wheel system Jag have had to make some modifications to the exterior of the F.
That means the all aluminium bonnet gets a bigger bulge to accommodate the new transmission and the vents move further apart and forward compared to the rear-wheel model.
AWD will also be available in the S range, where it can wear brand new 19-inch Volution alloy wheels, while the R sits on huge 20-inch Gyrodyne rims.
The convertible R will now match the coupe’s 3.9 second 0-60 time before going on to a limited 186mph.
The arrival of four-wheel power means that the boffins in the midlands have had to come up with a new traction control system, known as Intelligent Driveline Dynamics, and a new stability control system to vector torque between the front and rear wheels.
In normal mode the F will handle like the rear-wheel-drive model, with 100% of the power being routed to the back.
If required power can then be gradually routed forward, although they promise us that there will never be a situation where it becomes purely front-wheel driven.
Jag have admitted that despite the success of the F there have always been an outspoken few clamouring for a more back to basics manual model, and now they have duly obliged.
The six-speed manual will only be available with the high-revving V6 and Jag say they have spent time honing the pedal spacing for perfect heel-and-toe shifts.
In less exciting, but always welcome news the new electric steering system sees an improvement in both CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.
Inside Jaguar have refreshed the instrument cluster and upgraded the infotainment system, claiming the GPS system is now much faster.
Helpfully they are calling the new F range the 2016 model, but it will be on sale from Spring next year.
