This is the brand new Audi S1, revealed today the new hot-hatch version of the popular A1 will pump out 227bhp for £24,000.
Capable of hitting 62 in just 5.8 seconds the S1 will be available in both three door an five-door “sportback” versions when it goes on sale later this year.
The 2.0litre unit is linked to a six-speed manual ‘box and 270lb ft of torque is transferred to the road by Audi’s Quattro four-wheel-drive system, between them they power the S1 onto an electronically limited 155mph.
Despite the huge power Audi claim the S1 will still manage a respectable 40mpg but emissions are up by 20% from the top-of-the range A1 1.4 to 166g/km.
Audi say they have also reworked the A1’s suspension, power-steering and dampers to give better performance and a more sporty ride.
Outside the S1 gets an aggressive makeover, at the front the standard Audi upright grill gets a matt-black finish and sits above a new front splitter.
Headlights gain red inserts to continue the aggressive theme and the S1 receives a liberal sprinkling of “s” badges to show it’s an S-Sport model.
At the back a small spoiler is added above the rear window while a black insert sits under the brake-lights, reminiscent of iconic Quattro models of the past, underneath them a faux-diffuser nestles between dual twin-exhausts.
Inside the standard A1 interior receives bright coloured inserts as well as a smattering of S badges and red paint in the air-vents.
Milano sports seats are fitted as standard on the S1 as well as electronic climate control, a six-speaker single CD audio system with auxiliary iPod connection and SD card reader linked to a 6.5-inch retractable colour display, a Bluetooth interface and a Driver’s Information System.
Prices range from £24,000 for the three-dour to £25,630 for the Sportback, this can be boosted by adding optional Nappa leather seats or a “Quattro” styled interior pack which adds more coloured inserts and the flat-bottomed steering wheel.
