Aston Martin Vantage GT12 to debut at Goodwood FOS

15 Jun , 2015

Aston Martin has announced the new Vantage GT12 will be making its dynamic debut at this month’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Inspired by Aston’s V12 Vantage GT3 race car and based on the V12 Vantage S, the Vantage GT12 is the most performance-focused, road-going Vantage to date.
Featuring a 6-litre V12 engine producing 600PS and around 460lb ft of torque, the GT12 pushes the Vantage S a little closer to the GT3. The weight has been reduced by as much as 150kg, mainly due to the extensive use of carbon fibre (including the bodywork), aluminium, magnesium, and titanium, giving the car the dynamics of a racer while hanging on to just enough luxury to maintain the ethos of a Grand Tourer.
The body has been significantly restyled with a track-focused aerodynamics package. Although the ride height is the same as the Vantage S, the aggressive lower skirts and splitters reduce the ground clearance and together with the increased track give the car a lower and wider stance.
A dramatic horseshoe vent in the bonnet aids cooling and a large fixed rear wing increases downforce. The springs are firmer and the Bilstein adaptive dampers have been retuned as part of the dynamic drive mode modifications which also include faster shifts on the seven speed gearbox and modifications to the switchable throttle response, timing, exhaust note and steering dynamics.
Flow through the engine has been optimised with new magnesium inlet manifolds and a full titanium exhaust system.
Inside the GT3 theme continues with exposed carbon fibre including the seats, now with manual adjustment, and the new lightweight centre console. The infotainment system has been retained albeit with a fixed screen replacing the motorised one of the Vantage S, and leather and alcantara trim give just enough luxury to remind the driver this is still a road car.
Only 100 GT12s are to be built, each costing around £250,000 and Aston has already closed the order books.
The Vantage GT12 will take part in Goodwood’s Moving Motor Show on Thursday 25 June. It will appear on static display in the Supercar Paddock before tackling the Hill Climb course, with Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer at the wheel. Aston will also be showing a Vanquish Coupe V12, a Vantage S Coupe, a V12 Vantage S Roadster, a Rapide S and a Vanquish Volante over the weekend.
