Vauxhall have released this image of it’s uber-hot concept Astra VXR EXTREME- a lightweight monster based on a Nurburgring racer.

The modestly-named EXTREME will debut at this year’s Geneva motorshow but Vauxhall have revealed this  teaser picture in preparation.

The street-legal racer is based on Opel’s Astra Cup car that competed at last year’s Nurburgring 24 hours.

The racing version was based on Vauxhall’s high powered VXR Astra, which itself already pumps out 280 BHP and a stonking 400 Nm of torque.

Outside the Astra gains dual exhausts and a large rear wing as well as new side-skirts and aggressive bumpers.

Launching the EXTREME to celebrate ten years of the VXR brand Vauxhall claim the Extreme will contain “liberal” amounts of carbon-fibre as well as an integrated safety structure, racing seats and six-point safety belts.

More details of the low-volume special are expected to be revealed next month.
