Useful Garage Upgrades That Might Interest You

The garage is the most common place where people store their cars, bikes, lawnmowers, and power tools. It’s also a big storage space for things like gardening equipment, sports gear, seasonal items and more. Every once in a while, we all need to get our garage organized and updated. It’s the ability to make your  garage storage work for you whenever you need something.

Whether it’s for storage or just to make the space more livable, there are many upgrades you can do to help your garage become a better place. This could be anything from attaching an electric car charger to installing a storage lift. In this article, we will go through some of these upgrades and discuss how they might be of benefit to you.

A Storage Lift

What it does is store all the items you want to keep in your garage, but don’t necessarily need on a daily basis. This could include things like rakes, shovels or snow blowers (depending on where you live). What this unit will do for you is free up valuable space and make the garage look more organized and tidy.

You can find plenty of these quality garage products if you look on specialist websites. You can buy a garage storage lift that is retractable but that doesn’t require a power source or technology to operate it.

You can buy garage hoists that store things overhead, access free shipping deals and read about other related products too.

Power Outlets

Installing some of these in your garage can be useful for several different reasons. If you’re working on something that requires electricity but isn’t actually plugged in (such as a drill or saw), it can keep the cord out of the way and prevent accidents.

You may also be using tools (e.g. electric screwdrivers) that use up their rechargeable batteries very quickly, making it highly beneficial if the electric socket is within reaching distance.

In recent years we have become more and more dependent on USB sockets. They’re used to charge our Ipads, phones and wireless earbuds. Why not put one or two in your garage to ensure your electronic devices remain fully charged while you work?

Hooks And Shelving

If you have lots of unused wall space, put it to good use. Put some hooks on the walls for hanging coats, hats, and bags because they will protect your possessions from getting dirty on the floor. Hooks are useful because they save space and give you somewhere to put your belongings so that they don’t get in the way or create a trip hazard.

Another way to maximize your vacant wall space is to add shelves around the perimeter of your garage. They are great for storing things like flower pots and garden tools and you can also put your holiday decorations on them until they’re needed.

Organize Your Tools

Firstly, you need a sturdy toolbox that can hold all of the different types of wrenches and screwdrivers you have. Next, organize them by size so they are easier to find when you are fixing things around your house or vehicle.

You should also organize anything else in the garage like nails, screws, bolts etc. using boxes or tubs that are clearly labeled. Try and keep things in different sections, for instance, house items, garden tools or car maintenance equipment.

If you store everything securely it will prevent children and pets from touching it. This is especially important with little ones crawling around who might end up getting hurt by sharp objects or swallowing something.

Improve Your Lighting

It’s important to have lighting that works well. If it’s too dim or doesn’t work properly, it can be dangerous for you and your family members. Place bright bulbs near where you will be working, next to the garage doors and near any entry points. Ideally, you should add an overhead light fixture near work areas such as benches or car lifts to make life easier, safer and more enjoyable.

LED lighting will last longer and provide the same level of brightness as traditional lighting but at a fraction of the cost. You can install it yourself or have someone come in to do it for you, depending on your DIY skills.

Add Insulation

Another garage upgrade that might interest you is adding insulation around your windows and doors. If they are drafty, this may result in temperature loss inside which can lead to discomfort during the winter months.

You’ll experience increased energy bills if you’re running heaters all day long just to keep warm while you’re working on cars etc. Insulate the garage properly with high-quality materials so that there isn’t any cold air unexpectedly seeping in.

Replace Your Garage Door

There are many advantages to installing a brand new garage door. They include :

– repair cost savings

– increased home security

– improved curb appeal

If you are planning on selling your house soon, a new garage door might be the perfect addition to help attract buyers. Replacing an old door with a brand new one can add value and character to any home. Some doors come with a remote opener which means that you can open the door from your car (rather than having to get out), or even from inside your home.

You can also buy garage doors that use electronic keypad entry systems. They allow people to enter without carrying around keys and needing to unlock them.

Declutter

Don’t leave old clothes, shoes, books, magazines, cups, tools etc. laying around in your garage; it makes everything look messy and can compromise safety. Clean up after yourself as you go along and if there are spills on the floor from oil changes or other projects take care of them quickly. This is so they don’t turn into stains that will be hard to clean up later on, or become slippery to walk on.

If you find that your garage is particularly cluttered and messy then you could hire a 30 yard dumpster, but what does a 30 yard dumpster hold? In essence, it can hold a wide range of items and is perfect for decluttering projects like this, so consider hiring one for such an endeavour.

There are many other options you could consider, such as buying a workbench or putting up some storage units. By investing in your garage you will be stewarding your property and making it safer, more functional and a happier place to be.
