The all new Range Rover Sport has set the fastest record for a land vehicle to cross the UAE’s ‘Empty Quarter’. It is one of the harshest, most challenging dessert environments on the planet.
Moi Torrallardona was the driver and he averaged 51.87 MPH over the 849 KM route. In all it took just 10 hours and 22 minutes. The record was achieved in the 510PS 5.0 litre Supercharged V8 Sport, running standard tyres, its only modification was an underbody protection plate.
The Empty Quarter spans four countries in the Arabic Peninsula: Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen. Temperatures regularly rise above 50°C and any crossing, no matter how well organised, must be approached with extreme caution.
