Paris Motor Show – Hot Hatch Roundup

A few saucy new hot hatches have been unveiled at Paris 2012, and here they are!

Clio Renaultsport 200 Turbo Yes for the first time ever, the fast clio has been given a turbo. Out with the old 2 litre engine and in with a freshly developed 1.6 Turbo charged unit.
Main points:

  • 1.6 litre turbocharged engine
  • 200 horsepower at 6,000 rpm
  • 240 Nm of torque
  • EDC dual clutch transmission
  • Gear changes can be made in just 150 milliseconds
  • Sport chassis – for an optimum balance of sportiness and comfort in everyday motoring
  • Cup chassis – for technical and track day enthusiasts. These customers will enjoy 15 per cent more stiffness relative to the Sport chassis and a ride height lowered by 5 mm
  • 320mm-diameter discs at the front
  • Three mapping modes: ‘Normal’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Race’
  •  R-Sound Effect – Choice of engine noise played through speakers
  • F1-style front blade
  • Diffuser and spoiler generate 80 per cent and 20 per cent extra downforce
  •  Unique grille and spoiler, front and rear bumper
  • Wide-set LED daytime running lights
  • Sill extensions
  • 17-inch wheels, with 18- inch rims available as an option
  • Steering wheel flanked by two gearshift paddles

 


Golf GTI Concept – VW have shown off a pretty mean and sculpted GTI spec 2013 Golf. Set to go on sale early 2013. Personally i think this is the best looking Golf GTI in a long time!

Main points:

  • 2.0-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine
  • 220 PS as standard, but 230ps with a “Performance Pack”
  • 350 Nm of torque and a 0-60 in 6.6 seconds (for the 220ps)
  • 0-60 of 6.5 seconds with the Performance Pack
  • Top speed 155Mph
  • Performance pack includes larger front discs, and front diff lock
  • Stop/Start comes as standard
  • 47.1Mpg with carbon dioxide of 140 g/km
  • 6 speed DSG gearbox is an optional extra
  • Variable ration steering, smaller movements needed when parking etc
  • Red callipers as standard
  • Honeycomb grille with double red stripe
  • Smoked rear LED lights
  • LED number plate lights
  • Tartan sport seats
  • Flat bottom steering wheel
  • GTI “golf ball” gear knob
  • GTI red ambient lighting
  • Twin 80 mm chrome tailpipes

 


Honda CR-Z – Not reaaaally a hot hatch, more of a luke warm one. Its not the amazing Mugen CR-Z…..but at least its been given a bit more poke!

Main points:

  • 137PS without compromising fuel economics or emissions
  • New lithium ion battery
  • Plus Sport (S+) boost system.
  • New front bumper and grille
  • New aerodynamic rear diffuser
  • 17″ alloys on the GT version
  • Two new colours: Energetic Yellow and Aurora Violet
  • Updated ECU and valve timing
  • Engine now outputs 121PS upgraded from 141PS
  • Electric motor now outputs 20PS upgraded from 14PS
  • 0-60 is now 9.0 seconds
  • 124 Mph top speed
  • 56.5 MPG and emissions of 116g/km
  • On sale from January 2013
