So today i had a thoroughly good day at Silverstone; watching some REAL racing!
It was the British GT Championships turn to tear up Silverstone, the weather was glorious 26 Degrees and not a cloud in the sky. I have only recently found out how cheap tickets are to watch racing at Silverstone, which is about 20 mins away from me. £19 got me a day ticket with roving access of all the grandstands. We had all of Club Corner to ourselves!
The main GT Race was on for 3 hours, keeping track of the race was a bit of a nightmare, but that was half the fun. There was so much action, more overtakes in those 3 hours than a whole season of Formula 1.
My main interest in going was to see the Nissan GTR GT3, i had seen it at Goodwood but wanted to see it race for real. It ended up in 8th, after some brake problems and penalties for winning in earlier rounds.
One of the biggest finds of the day was getting up and close to a JUKE – R, which is the Formula 3 safety car. Its very impressive up close, the bulges and skirts make it look like a toy car, but to see this thing on the track was superb; it put the Fire Marshalls Jag XFR to shame. Oh….and tax on a Nissan JUKE – R is only £210, compared to over £1k for the GTR which it’s based on……i think the DVLA have missed a trick here!
