Last week saw the UK launch of the new Mercedes GLA, and for the lucky ones that got to attend the route saw them driving in a salt mine.
Deep below Cheshire is the UK’s largest rock salt mine, its also the oldest working mine it started in the 19th century and so far 23 million cubic metres have been taken out of the ground.
189 metres below ground there are 130 miles of tunnels, 4 normal road going GLA’s were lowered into the mine before setting off in the constant 14 degree temperature.
The GLA’s 4MATIC all wheel drive system naturally coped flawlessly, the cars intelligent lighting systems lit up the fully dark tunnels with ease.
Mercs new GLA is now on sale with prices starting at £25,080 for the 200 CDI model.
