Here on Carwitter we aren’t really fans of Formula 1, but after taking a look at the new Paddock Chronograph by PaceMasters we have a lot to thank the series for.
PaceMasters came from the mind of Eugene Cherdantsev, a 31 year old motorsport fan from Moscow.
He had the idea for the a perfectly inspired motorsport watch, so he set about to make it. After building a small team of highly passionate watch and car designers from Zurich, Berlin, New York and Istanbul they’ve spend the last 16 months working through concepts, sketches, prototypes and now the final item is almost here.
It’s powered by a hybrid meca-quartz movement, so it’s battery powered with a set of hammers, gears, wheels and levers that operate the chronograph function. The ticking hand also sweeps rather than ticks, as a fully mechanical, premium watch would.
The dials are multi layered, six in fact. The base layer includes 0.4mm thick carbon fibre, there are also sector markers on the ring and three sub dials. Acid yellow has been used widely throughout the watch to contrast with the black case and face.
You can also customise the Paddock Chronograph. The pit board section can be switched to either ‘Laps to Go’, Box Now’ or ‘Keep Pace’. In the future this will be expanded for different teams, drivers and even brand collaboration.
Currently there are three case colours to choose from with either a black PVD, matte grey or a steel/silver look. The straps are also made from Alcantara…the best, most amazing material ever. There’s a choice of straps to match the colours of various race teams.
The best thing about the Paddock Chrono is the fact that it’s 42mm in size. Quite often watches go with a larger 44/45mm size, which just ends up being too big…like our last automotive watch review, the Omologato Laguna Seca. 42mm is subtle and will fit wearers with even the daintiest of wrists.
What’s the price?
From May 22nd you can pre-order a Paddock Chronograph for $385, that’s a saving of 35% off the retail price. The chrono is only available for 30 days at that price though, after that it will go up to the full $599.
Every customer that pre-orders will also get a chance to win tickets to the Start-Finish grandstand of one of this years 2018 F1 races.
