The third generation Volkswagen Touareg is available to order from today.
This flagship SUV will be initially offered with a 286 PS 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel engine. In Autumn, a 231 PS version of the same engine will be available following later by a 340 PS 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged petrol engine.
With a peak torque of 600 Nm, the 286 PS 3.0 V6 TDI shows off it’s towing capability. The new Touareg is capable towing braked trailer weights of up to 3.5 tonnes.
Powered by a 286 PS 3.0 V6 TDI engine, it does 0-62 mph in 6.1 seconds and has a top speed of 146 mph.
The new Touareg also comes with 4MOTION and is paired to an eight-gear automatic Tiptronic gearbox with ‘shift by wire’.
A plug-in hybrid with 367 PS is planned for the China market but details for a Europe version are yet to be known.
Touareg is offered with three trim levels: SEL, R-Line and new R-Line Tech.
Main feature of the new Touareg’s tech is the option of the Innovision Cockpit. The 12” Active Info Display merges with the 15” TFT touchscreen of the new Discover Premium infotainment system to create a new digital operating, information, communication and entertainment unit.
The Innovision Cockpit is an interactive interface where information and settings of all essential comfort, assist and infotainment systems converge in a simple-to-use matrix.
Touareg features new assistance systems such as Night Vision, Traffic Jam and Roadwork Lane Assist, Front Cross Traffic Assist, active all-wheel steering and a new roll stabilisation system with electromechanical anti-roll bars.
Inside also sees introduction of a new flexible rear seat system. The rear seats can be moved forward by 160mm to give more boot space.
Optional panoramic sliding roof is the largest yet offered by Volkswagen at 1,270 mm long and 825 mm wide. The front half can be continuously opened and moved back by almost half a metre.
Prices start from £51,595.00 for the SEL, £55,095.00 for the R Line and £58,195.00 for the range-topping R-Line Tech.
