Mirror-mounted dash cams come in various guises, but very few truly premium manufacturers have dipped their toes into this form factor. The Miofive Mirror 1 aims to change that, bringing flagship video specifications and connected tech to a unit that straps directly over your factory rear-view mirror.
Replacing traditional glass with a digital screen promises to eliminate blind spots and interior obstructions, while giving older vehicles a modern tech injection.

What is it?
The Miofive Mirror 1 is a feature-packed dual-camera setup that combines an electronic rear-view mirror display with front and rear digital recording. It captures what’s happening ahead while providing continuous, real-time video of the road behind, making it ideal for convertibles, vans, or vehicles with restrictive rear visibility.
Twin Sony Starvis 2 sensors handle image capture automatically, with the forward-facing camera using a top-tier 4K Sony IMX415 sensor, while the external waterproof rear camera uses a 2K Sony IMX675 unit. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity link the Mirror 1 to the Miofive app, enabling fast video transfers at up to 7MB/s. Built-in 5GHz Wi-Fi, external GPS tracking, HDR video processing, and a 128GB microSD card come standard – nice touch.

How does it work?
Simply attach the unit over your existing mirror, plug it into the 12V socket or optional hardwire kit, and run the rear camera cable to the back. A quick tap on the 11.26-inch anti-glare IPS touchscreen lets you toggle between front-only, rear-only, or split-screen camera feeds. Having an expansive digital display eliminates cabin clutter like headrests or all that tip junk, though adjusting to a screen perspective takes a bit of getting used to. If you prefer standard glass, tapping the power button turns off the screen to reveal a regular reflective surface.
It’s worth mentioning that full functionality isn’t unlocked right out of the box with the standard 12V power plug. Enabling 24-hour parking monitoring requires installing an optional hardwire kit, which competent DIYers can fit to tap straight into the vehicle’s fuse box.
It’s built in power supply relies on a reliable supercapacitor rather than a traditional lithium battery, making it far better suited to withstand summer dashboard heat. In terms of smart alerts, the Mirror 1 features an onboard AI driver assistance suite. It provides customizable audio warnings for abrupt braking, rapid acceleration, lane departures, speed cameras, and traffic ‘Stop and Go’ movement.
What’s it like?
Physically, the Mirror 1 is a substantial piece of hardware measuring 31 x 7 x 2 cm and weighing under 500 grams. Build quality feels sturdy and durable, though its 11-inch footprint can feel overly dominant on smaller windscreens. The main display is sharp and vivid, displaying live speeds, time, and camera feeds clearly, even in gloomy weather conditions. The front camera on the rear of the mirror also pivots, so you can adjust it to get the perfect view.
Connecting via the app makes managing recorded clips effortless. Utilising 5GHz Wi-Fi, transferring high-resolution 4K video files directly to your phone takes seconds, avoiding the sluggish transfers typical of older 2.4GHz units.
Testing the dual camera setup on the road delivered crisp daytime details and strong night-time clarity, with license plates remaining legible thanks to the Sony Starvis 2 hardware. There are also some handy installation options included in the box. Miofive supplies rubberised straps, adhesive pads, and screw mounts, allowing you to choose between a non-destructive temporary fitment or a permanent installation. The strap connectors do stick out somewhat from the dashcam which looks a little…ugly, so if you want a clean install you’re probably best using the 3M tape on the backing plate.
I did fit the rear camera internally on the rear hatch of my car, but it is meant to be externally mounted, but I wasn’t going to drill holes in my car for a review! It worked fine mounted inside, and is probably a better solution as it won’t get grimy.

When it comes to image quality and software stability, the Mirror 1 is difficult to fault. Flagship 4K optics combined with rapid 5GHz Wi-Fi make it a brilliant upgrade for drivers looking for a front and rear camera setup. My main gripe, however, is on initial installation hassle and vehicle sizing.
At £259.99 to £299.99, routing the extensive bundle of cables around car trim can feel like a daunting project, especially if you aren’t all that ‘practical’. How do I hide this tangle of wiring neatly without a hardwire kit? Will this bulky unit fit my compact car without blocking my view? I must say though, the handy little colour coded labels for the wires are a nice touch, and something I haven’t seen before.
You are also expected to purchase extra items if you want full functionality:
-
Miofive Smart Hardwire Kit – £19.90
-
Professional Trim Removal Tools – £9.99
Adding extra installation hardware to an already premium purchase price remains hard to swallow. Come on, guys—throw in the hardwire kit as standard at this price point and a trim removal tool at least.
Apart from the cable routing task, the Miofive Mirror 1 is a really decent dash cam setup. Future-proofing with 4K Sony Starvis 2 sensors combined with digital mirror convenience makes it a top-tier choice for staying safe on the roads.

Oh and you can also use it with the screen off and no rear camera attached – but it is a little dark.
Where can I get one?
