Mercedes have announced a raft of spec changes to the E-Class coming in September – including the firm’s nine speed gearbox.
The 9GTronic ‘box slips into the now 258 bhp (an increase of six) E 350 BlueTEC engine in the Saloon, Estate, Coupé and Cabriolet and Merc say will reduce CO2 emissions by up to 17g/km.
The E’s smaller E 220 BlueTEC engine will gain an extra 7 bhp (moving to 177) and lose 16 g/km of CO2, while still paired with a puny seven gears.
Merc, never ones to be helpful with their car naming, will rename the already tongue twisting E400 AMG Sport to become the E 400 AMG Line with a larger 3.5 litre V6 engine in the coupe and cabriolet.
Each E class will gain Collision Prevention Assist Plus while new sets of extras will join the list.
The Premium Package for the Saloon includes a Panoramic Glass Sunroof, Memory Package, Rear Split Folding Seats, and a Reversing Camera for £2,695 while the Premium Package adds Keyless-GO Comfort Pack and a Harman Kardon sound system for £3,895.
On the Estate the Premium will set you back £2,395 and Premium Plus Packages £3,495, as they already have the split folding seats and powered tailgate as standard.
