Fuel injector cleaner – Cataclean – Does it work?

As a follow up to our Cataclean Review we thought we’d look at things from a fuel injector cleaner perspective. Even though Cataclean is mainly known as a catalytic converter cleaner it actually cleans your whole fuel system.

Cataclean Cleaning Fuel Injectors

Over time carbon can build up around fuel injectors in direct injection engines. This is because they’re exposed to the combustion process whenever the fuel is ignited in the cylinder.

Injectors can also gunk up due to sediment and hydrocarbons as well as other elements that end up in the fuel system over time. This can be exacerbated by leaving fuel in a tank unused for a long period of time – a good reason to use a fuel stabiliser if you’re storing a car.

Cataclean is largely solvent based, which means it can help to break down deposits on the elements of your cars’ fuel system. From pipes, to pumps and the injectors.

You may not see a benefit out of just one use though. Ideally you need to use it on a regular basis.

If you’re having issues with emissions, or poor performance it’s worth using more than one treatment to get the full effect; especially if your car is older, or has never had a fuel system treatment used in it.

Cataclean recommend to use a bottle every 3,000 miles, or every three months, whichever comes sooner for you.

It is however safe to use more than that. Check out our article on Cataclean Instructions for more info.

So while Cataclean acts as a fuel injector cleaner, it’s probably best to use it as a regular treatment. Using it often will stop the problem of clogged injectors from the start.

Recognising the signs of a faulty fuel injector is crucial to prevent severe engine damage. Symptoms may include rough idling, engine misfires, reduced fuel efficiency, and even engine stalling. If left unattended, these issues can lead to more significant problems such as engine damage and costly repairs.

As well as Cataclean Petrol there’s also Diesel variant which can also help clean diesel particulate filters.

You can buy bottles from Amazon, or if you’re in need of a bottle urgently Euro Car Parts or Halfords sell it in store or click and collect.
