Hot on the heels of their cheeky tease and the big brother S-Max here are the full details of Ford’s new C-Max and Grand C-Max.
Again it’s a similar formula with the new Ford face grafted on, but there’s little they could change stylistically with a mini MPV without going all radical on us.
So we get the now standard chrome trapezoidal grille, the Focus’s more sculpted headlights and to clean the style a bit the washers are moved under the bonnet.
Inside Ford say noise, vibrations and harshness have all been improved with the use of thicker glass, more absorbent seals around the doors and the engine bay heat damping layer now includes noise reducing materials.
Ford have also fiddled with the flywheel to damp vibrations from the engine when under load and ease the transition when Start/Stop is in use.
That flywheel is inserted into a choice between Fords 2.0 and 1.5litre TDCi diesel engines and their award winning 1.0litre EcoBoost petrol.
The 1.5 litre unit replaces the old 1.6litre version and pushes out 118 bhp while Ford believe the 2.0litre model has achieved a 20% increase in efficiency.
Ford’s “One Ford ” design language means it’s not that hard to guess what the interior will look like, as the S the Focus… sorry, C-Max gains an 8-inch touchscreen and SYNC 2 active voice control.
In the centre Ford have redesigned the centre console to improve storage space and USB connectivity arrives.
Finally a raft of safety features will appear on the C-Max, including Active Park Assist, Cross Traffic Alert, Park-Out Assist, Active City Stop, Active Braking and Distance Indication.
The new C-Max will go on sale early next year.
