Ford have developed a new adaptive power steering system.
A motor and gear mechanism that sits inside the steering wheel effectively allows the ratio of the rack to be constantly adjusted.
At low speeds this means less turns lock to lock for maneuvering, whilst at higher speed the steering can be dialed back for more control.
Because the system actually sits inside the steering wheel no additional adjustments have to be made to the vehicle.
The system was developed for production by Ford in collaboration with Takata, a leading supplier of automotive steering and safety systems.
It will hit the streets next year on selected models, but expect it to be rolled out across the Ford range in the coming years.
