We often get a lot of questions in our chat regarding Cataclean and how to use it, so we thought we’d write an article covering the most common ones as well as providing the instructions from the manufacturer.
- Run your car until you have a quarter of a tank left – approx 15 litres
- Remove the seal from the bottle – fully to make sure none of it ends up in your fuel tank
- Undo your fuel filler cap
- Pour in the whole bottle
- Drive normally for at least 15 minutes
- Refuel when you need to – we’d leave it until the light comes on
Can I use more than one bottle of Cataclean?
Yes, a whole bottle of Cataclean is recommended for 15 litres of fuel, roughly a quarter of a tank. So if you have half a tank left in your car, you can use two bottles.
If you run your car down to half a tank and use Cataclean but it seems to have no effect, refill your tank fully. Drive the car until you get back to a quarter of a tank left, and if the issue hasn’t gone away, try another bottle then do the same.
Remember, it can take a while for the Cataclean to work its magic and get through the whole system.
Can I use Cataclean regularly?
Yes, it’s recommended to use it every 3,000 miles or four times a year, so summer, autumn, winter, spring.
Will Cataclean clear error codes?
Not by itself no. But if you buy a cheap fault code reader you’ll be able to clear the fault codes yourself.
Clear the codes before using cataclean then go for a drive, if after 50 miles or so the errors haven’t come back you can pretty much guarantee the fault is fixed.
Can I use Catclean in a diesel?
Yes, they have a version especially for diesel cars.
