SEATS all new Cupra 280 DSG has set the fastest ever lap time of the Nordschleife for a front wheel drive car.
It’s time was an astonishing 7:58.4 minutes! The first time a 2WD car has lapped in under 8 minutes.
The car used was a normal production spec Leon Cupra 280 DSG, however it was fitted with the optional Performance Pack that adds Brembo high performance brakes, and specially designed alloys fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport CUp 2 tyres.
Average speed for the lap was 96 MPH with a top speed of 150 MPH being achieved by Jordi Gené official SEAT driver between 2003 and 2010.
The Cupra 280 is powered by a 2.0 litre turbo TSI petrol engine. 0-62 comes up in 5.7 seconds for the DSG paddle ‘box whilst a manual will take 5.7 seconds. Top speed is limited to 155 MPH.
To keep all that power on the ground SEAT have fitted a mechanical locking diff, they have also tweaked the steering to be more progressive and improved the dynamic chassis control – this allows you to change between comfort and sport suspension settings.
A two stage ESC program is available allowing you to turn it off completely.
Prices start from £26,940 for the manual 2 door SC Leon, the DSG will set you back £28,225.
If two doors arent enough for you the 5 door model starts at £27,240 in manual guise rising to £28,525 for the DSG.
