Supagard pH Neutral Shampoo Review

10 Oct , 2018

Most of you have probably heard of Supagard at the point of sale when you’re signing for your new car. What you may not know is that they also offer a range of high quality car cleaning items, one of them being a pH neutral shampoo.

What is it?

A neutral pH level means it’s not acidic or alkaline, which is good. It means it’s a lot gentler, it won’t remove wax or protective coatings, it will just clean the dirt that’s on the surface.

If you don’t ever wax or seal your car, that’s something you should start doing. You can go one step further by using a ceramic sealant which can protect the car for years at a time. Either way, its good practice to match that with a decent pH neutral shampoo.

How?

Supagard have engineered a biodegradable formula based on flurocarbons, these add a hydrophobic effect to your car after washing. What that means in English is it makes the water bead off it, as a wax or sealant does.

It also means the solution is far slippier than your normal car shampoo, making sure your wash mitt glides across your paintwork easier. Supagard say the word ‘sponge’ on their site, but that word is banned on this site. Don’t ever use one to wash your car.

What’s it like?

As per the instructions on the bottle we used roughly a teeny tiny cap full of solution in a normal bucket. The amount of foam produced was super impressive, even when washing the car the bodywork was covered in suds.

All the road muck came off with ease, drying the car left it looking super glossy, there was still a fair amount of beading being noticed during the first shower.

Whilst it might not add protection, it cleaned the wax that’s been on the car for a few months without stripping it off. The amount of foam produced and the slickness of the solution made cleaning the Clio even easier than normal.

Even though the bottle is only 500 ml it should last you around 22 washes, they come in double packs for £24.95 so that should easily last you a year or more for a single car.
