Production of the new Nissan Leaf has started in Sunderland.
Production of the original Nissan Leaf started in 2011 and more than 85,000 have been sold since.
The new Leaf has an increase range of up to 235 miles on a single charge, bold design, advanced driver assistance technologies and enhanced in-car connectivity.
It also comes with a new e-Pedal which allows drivers to start, accelerate, decelerate and stop the car by just increasing or decreasing the pressure applied to the accelerator pedal.
There’s also ProPILOT which automatically controls the distance to the vehicle in front and steers to keep the vehicle central in lane.
“Nissan led the way in introducing electric vehicles to Europe in 2011, and every year since then it’s been clear that more and more customers share our vision for the future of driving,”
said Kevin Fitzpatrick, Nissan Europe Divisional Vice President for Manufacturing.
First customers are due to receive the new Nissan Leaf in February.
