Aston Martin finally reveal an all-new Vantage

21 Nov , 2017

Aston Martin have finally revealed an all-new Vantage, the first new model in 13 years.

The Vantage name has been used by Aston Martin for seven decades, first used on the DB2.

The name quickly became a model in its own right with cars like the twin-supercharged V600 Le Mans and the very popular and now outgoing V8 Vantage.

This new Vantage has seen a complete overhaul. There’s a simple yet broad and agile exterior design. Highlights are the sharp head and tail lights which create new signatures helping towards a strong road presence.

Aerodynamic performance was the main reason to the new Vantage’s design. The front splitter directs airflow underneath the car. Underneath there is a system of channels that guide cooling air to where it’s needed and also provides clean air to the rear diffuser.

Along with the new side gills which push air pressure out from the front wheel arches help the new Vantage to generate high levels of downforce.

A similar flowing design continues inside with a focused sports car interior.

A lower driving position creates a more engaging drive but also improves headroom which was a problem with the previous Vantage.

The interior has plentiful stowage space including double-tier storage and useable room behind the seats.

The Vantage comes with high level of standard equipment such as keyless start/stop, parking distance display, park assist and front and rear parking sensors and tyre pressure monitoring system.

In-car infotainment is shown on a centrally mounted 8” LCD screen and features Aston Martin Audio System, sat-nav, Bluetooth audio and streaming and USB playback.

There’s also a high level craftsmanship that’s gone into the interior with use of Alcantara and leather upholstery and tactile natural materials.

All-new Vantage gets a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine which is set as low and far back as possible to create a 50:50 weight distribution. Despite producing 510PS, having a top speed of 195 mph and doing 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds, the engine is also efficient with a CO2 figure of 245g/km.

All the power is sent to the rear wheels via a rear-mounted ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. Electronic systems such as Dynamic Stability Control and Dynamic Torque Vectoring maximise control.

For the first time for a Vantage, it also features an Electronic Rear Differential. This is linked to the electronic stability control system so can react almost instantly to the car’s behaviour.

The chassis is an evolution of the one used on the DB11 but 70 per cent of the structure’s components are new for the Vantage.

There’s great power-to-weight ratios with the new Vantage’s dry weight being 1530kg. The exhaust, induction and engine management has received tuning to create a throaty soundtrack.

“It speaks volumes for the outgoing Vantage that it is the single most successful model in Aston Martin’s history. Creating a worthy successor has been a challenge to relish and a huge source of motivation. I’m enormously excited by what we’ve created: a new Vantage that’s more explicit in looks and intent, wrapping heart-pounding performance and dazzling dynamics into an everyday usable package. A true sports car with a sharper look and a keener dynamic edge, the new Vantage is the Aston Martin pure driving machine enthusiasts have been waiting for,”

said Aston Martin President Chief Executive Officer, Dr Andy Palmer.

The all-new Vantage is on sale now and starts from £120,900. Deliveries are due to start during the second quarter of 2018.
