Experian Autocheck

The rolling landscape of Scotland is the perfect place for some racing. Scotland is home to some brilliant race tracks, and below you will find the lowdown on four of the best.

The Kames Motorsport Complex

This track is located in Muirkirk in East Ayrshire and it is an excellent spot for a day out. It boasts space for 400 vehicles, snacks available throughout the day and an 800m track that will test even veteran drivers.

This track is owned by the Kames Motorsport Club and it was resurfaced recently (in 2000 to be precise), so it is in great condition.

Crail Raceway

This racing circuit enjoys a beautiful location as it is housed in Crail on the eastern coast of Scotland. A relatively laid back race course that offers regular rallies and is also home to a drag strip, Crail Raceway is very popular with amateur drivers who want to take their vehicle for a spin.

One event that locals love is the regular Crail Thrash, a race complete with Christmas Tree start lights which anyone who has a UK driving licence is welcome to join in with.

Knockhill Raceway

Knockhill is Scotland’s national motorsport circuit and as such it deserves a mention on any list of the country’s top race tracks.  Both go karting and a race car experience are offered here, and there are also an excellent array of driving experiences to choose from where patrons can test drive classic cars or Formula 1 racing vehicles under the one on one guidance of an expert instructor.

Situated in Dumfermline, Knockhill has been at the forefront of new developments in the racing industry – it recently played host to an electric rally, for example.

Lochgelly Raceway

A recently modernised race track, Lochelly Raceway is a large and popular place for car lovers to visit. And, it is situated not too far from the race track at Knockhill so you could make a day of it and visit both if you wanted to.

Lochgelly is a brilliant place both to watch and to participate in rallies, and it has also earned the accolade of Scotland’s best venue for stock cars.

Try it for yourself with a race car experience

There is nothing quite so exciting as taking a racing car for a spin yourself. Many race tracks in Scotland and beyond offer driving experiences so that you can see what it is like to test drive a Formula 1 vehicle.

As mentioned above, Knockhill is just one example of a race track that does this – here, you can benefit from a one on one instruction session before taking a classic car or world renowned racing machine for a test drive around the track.

Even if you don’t fancy doing this yourself, it is worth bearing in mind that these experiences also make brilliant birthday gifts for the car lovers in your life.
