The all new 2017 Honda Civic Type R has been unveiled in prototype form at the Paris motor show today.
Taking many design cues from the current gen Type R it’s looks are menacing, with wide bumpers, aggressive wheel arches and a huge rear wing.
Low down at the front there’s a carbon fibre front splitter with red accents, diamond cut mesh grilles cover the air intakes, there’s also a new air vent on the nose just below the famed red Honda badge. Another new addition is the bonnet scoop on the bonnet, very Subaru.
Carbon adorns the side skirts, and the 20 inch gloss black alloys have red trim and are wrapped in 245 width tyres.
Yet more carbon sits at the rear, and taking a cue from Corvette there are now 3 functional exhausts…yes, three.
This new Civic Type R will be produced in Swindon and is expected late next year, or possibly into early 2018.
And as a world first this Honda is going to the USA with a Type R badge!
But if you want that brushed aluminium wrap of a paint job it’s only available on that car…for now.
Our opinion – It still looks awkward and far too big. It looks like the back of the current generation Type R has been grafted onto it.
