The 2016 Mini JCW Clubman is most powerful ever. It will hit 62 in just 6.3 seconds, it makes 231 HP and 350 Nm of torque from a 2 litre lump.
Top speed is 148 MPH and it has Mini’s ALL4 all wheel drive system fitted as standard.
You can opt for either an 8 speed sports steptronic gearbox or a good old 6 speed manual. The manual has some clever rev matching tech to make downshifts smoother. It also has a bespoke level and short shift mechanism.
As for the auto, that gets nifty Rolls Royce esque tech that uses the sat nav to check out upcoming road conditions, so that it wont change gear mid corner or at a junction. Clever.
You also get paddle shifters.
Most of the time the JCW is front wheel drive, but the rear electro-hydraulically controlled ‘hang-on’ clutch fitted to the rear axle can kick in within seconds when slip is occurring, to couple the rear wheels into motion.
Naturally you get firmer dampers, but the option is there for variable damper control including Sport, Mid and Green mode control.
The standard Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) also includes Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC) – which acts as an electronic locking function for the front axle differential – and Performance Control, which assists agile turn-in when taking bends at speed.
Up front you get 4 piston Brembo stoppers, sitting under 18″ lightweight alloys as standard.
Outside you get front air intakes where fog lights should be, integrated air curtains and air breathers to help optimise the aerodynamic properties, unique side sills, roof spoiler and a rear apron help to reduce aerodynamic lift.
