Well it’s May and this month we have a very full calendar so we’ll get straight in.
Big events on both sides of the pond this May as Germany see’s the Nurburgring 24 hour & around 200 squads descend on the Nordschleife from the 26th – 29th of the month. Plenty of online streams to keep you up to date with this one.
On the other side of the water, arguably (although sportscar fans will question it) the biggest motorsport event in the world prepares for it’s 100th running. The Indianapolis 500 takes place on the same weekend as the N24 (29th) but has a long run up lasting the entire month of May. BT Sports will bring UK coverage of the event.
Sportscar fans have a full roster this month as the WEC heads to Spa on the 7th (Saturday), the ELMS to Imola on the 15th while Stateside the IMSA championship heads to Laguna Seca on the 1st of the month. Motors TV & Radio Le Mans should give you coverage.
Formula E continues Season 2, heading to Berlin on the 21st of the month, as usual ITV4 and online coverage will be available.
The DTM Championship gets underway at Hockenheim weekending the 8th May before heading to Spielberg, Austria 20th-22nd. BT and the series YouTube channel will bring the pictures.
GT fans have plenty on this month, most on these shores too with the British GT heading to Rockingham on the 30th April – 1st May (BT/Ch4/Motors) before the Blancpain rolls across the channel for Sprint action at Brands Hatch (7th -8th) and endurance racing at Silverstone a week later, again BT & Motors should have this covered.
If that along with the N24 isn’t enough then the 24hr series heads to Zandvoort for 12 hours in the dunes on the 6th & 7th, live site streaming, Radio Le Mans and Motors TV should bring this to a device near you.
Tin Tops are well catered for as well with BTCC action at Thruxton on the 7th and 8th (ITV4) and WTCC from Morocco (same weekend Eurosport) before joining up with the N24 at the Nurburgring at the end of the month. Eurosport covering the action.
Off track & in the forests there is plenty of Rally action to be had, WRC heading to Portugal 19th-22nd (BT Sport) the ERC to Greece 6th-8th (Eurosport) while the British championship takes in the Pirelli Rally 30th April-1st May.
World Rally Cross is a little busier this month with events at Hockenheim, Germany (7th-8th) alongside the DTM, a week later in Belgium and, a further fortnight later (28th and 29th) Lydden Hill for the UK round. If you can’t get there it’ll all be on Quest.
Fans of bikesports are going to be ok this May as the BSB heads to Oulton Park from the 30th-2nd (that’s the bank holiday Monday) before heading to Brands Hatch on the weekend of the 20th-22nd. Eurosport and ITV4 will keep you up to date if you are not trackside.
World Superbikes are slightly busier with events in Italy (Imola) 30th April-1st May, Malaysia 14th-15th May and then to Donington Park on the late bank holiday weekend (Sunday) Eurosport is the channel here, while MotoGP heads to France’s Le Mans Bugatti circuit (6th-8th) & Mugello Italy (20th-22nd) via BT Sport and ITV4.
If that still doesn’t fufill your motorsports needs or the month then the V8 Supercar series via BT and Motors heads to Perth (6th-8th) and Winton (20th-22nd) while the NASCAR crews will have plenty to do as the championship takes in races at Talledega (1st) Kansas (7th) Dover (15th) the Sprint All Stars Race on the 22nd and Charlotte, 29th. Premier sports have the coverage.
Looks like we’ll need a few more hours in the weekend this month!
