The new 4 cylinder turbo Cayman is upon us!
You now get a flat four boxer engine delivering 296 BHP from a 2.0 litre lump. It’s beefier bigger brother the S gets 345 BHP from a 2.5 litre engine. That’s a 25 BHP increase over both outgoing models.
The Cayman 718 can be equipped with either a six speed manual or 7 speed PDK gearbox.
0-62 is 4.7 seconds with the PDK ‘box and Sport Chrono pack, whilst the S drops that time to just 4.2 seconds.
To help keep the model pin sharp the steering rack is now 10% quicker, rear wheels half an inch wider, springs have been stiffened and anti roll bars thickened to help body control.
Even the brakes have been upgraded with the basic Cayman getting brakes from the old S model.
You can opt for the fancy, albeit costly add ons that include torque vectoring rear diff, 10mm lower PASM adaptive dampers or 20mm lower PASM sport versions.
Prices have taken a drop too, the Cayman is now cheaper than a Boxster.
£39,878 will get you a basic Cayman whilst the S will will cost you £48,834. Nearly 2k cheaper than a Boxster – no longer the poor man’s Porsche!
