Well, into the years 2nd quarter and now the racing really begins!
We’ll kick off at Silverstone for the WEC & ELMS series openers 4 & 6 hours of sportscar goodness on the Saturday and Sunday with some of the most technologically advanced racing cars ever made. No tyre / fuel saving here just flat out racing across all the classes.
If you can’t get to Silverstone on the weekend of the 16th and 17th of April point the sofa at Motors TV for the pictures.
Over in America the Weathertech Sportscar Championship continues with the Sports Car Grand Prix of Long Beach on the 15th & 16th Radio Le Mans dot com or Motors should have this covered.
Also making a welcome return this month is the BTCC, following the big reveal a week or so back the racing starts at Brands Hatch on the weekend of the 2nd, and Donington Park a fortnight later. If you’re not there make sure you are watching ITV4 for full live coverage of the action.
Formula E makes a trip state side this month, also heading to Long Beach, the Long Beach ePrix taking place on the 2nd of the month, ITV4, BT Sport & Youtube would be the places to see this one.
GT fans are not being left behind this month either with the Blancpain Endurance and Sprint series kicking off Misano hosting the Sprint series opener on the weekend of the 10th while, Monza is the destination a fortnight later for the Endurance series. BT Sport & Motors should bring you coverage.
Sticking with endurance racing the Silverstone 24 Hour takes place on the weekend of the 2nd/3rd of the month, this time a 24hr touring car race the event should be live via the 24hr series website and maybe Motors TV.
There’s more for tin top fans this month as the WTCC returns with 3 events at Paul Ricard in France from the 1st-3rd April before heading off to Slovakia (15th-17th) and Hungary (22nd-24th). Eurosport brings the racing home.
Out in the forests it’s getting quite busy too as the WRC, ERC and BRC are all in action this month. The WRC is heading to Argentina from the 21st to the 24th (BT & CH5) the ERC to Ireland from the 7th to 9th of the month (Eurosport) and the British Championship who will be in attendance at the Irish event before heading to Carlisle and the Pirelli Rally which bridges April and May, Channel 4 should cover the British round.
The World Rally Cross also returns this month with the World RX of Portugual from Bompiso on the 15th of the month, this year the series is available free on digital terrestrial television on Quest.
Bikers will again have plenty to watch with the BSB starting at Silverstone on the weekend of the 10th, while the world leg of Superbike racing heads off to Aragon, Spain (1st-3rd) and Assan Holland (15th-17th) Eurosport carries the live coverage with ITV 4 providing highlights.
Meanwhile Moto GP heads off to Argentina (1st-3rd), Circuit of the Americas (8th-15th) before heading to Jerez, Spain (22nd-24th) BT Sport is the place to catch this.
Over in America the NASCAR championship continues with events at Martinsville (3rd), Texas (9th), Bristol (13th) and Richmond (24th) Premier Sports bring the UK coverage.
Finally for this month the V8 Supercar season continues “down under” with races at Symmons Plains on the 1st-3rd and Philip Island from the 15th -17th. BT & Motors bring coverage.
The calendars are getting full, the weekends are getting busy and there are still a few series left to start, see you all in May.
