Le Mans 2014 start- carwitter

It’s that time of year again where we at carwitter begin to salivate over another year of top sportscar action as the ACO have announced full grids for the World Endurance Championship and Le Mans 24 hours.

This year the rundown is even more exciting than ever with a bumper grid of 14 top level LMP1 cars entered including 11 factory cars from Audi, Porsche, Toyota and Nissan for the world famous enduro.

Nissan GT-R LM NISMO - Front Angle - Carwitter

That list will include third cars at Le Mans for both Porsche and Nissan with top British talent in the form of Nick Tandy and Harry Tincknell stepping up to P1 for the first time.

The top end field will be backed up by a return to form from LMP2, which struggled in the WEC last year, with 10 full season entries, swelling to a bumper 20 for Le Mans.

Oak racing return after a year racing in the US while Alpine step up from the Eurpoean Le Mans Series.

Le Mans 2014 G-Drive- carwitter

The grid is boosted by the addition of two cars from ALMS stalwards Extreme Speed, who enter the only HPD closed coupes in the field.

Strakka will be hoping to finally put a tortuous 2014 behind them as the again enter their Dome S103 into both WEC and Le Mans.

Le Mans 2014 Corvette - carwitter

The GTE ranks will see 22 cars start the twice-round-the-clock race, 14 of whom are full season entries.

In their ranks will be the return of Larbre and their rumbling Covettes after a year out in LMP2 and five (yes again FIVE) factory Aston Martins.

Le Mans 2014 Porsche 91 - carwitter

The pro category in the WEC will again see three each from Ferrari, Aston and Porsche take to the track while they are joined again by Corvette at Le Mans.

The cars will next reconvene at Paul Ricard at the end of March for the Prologue before the season kicks off at Silverstone in April.
