Vauxhall have released full details of it’s 295bhp racecar-for-the-road EXTREME edition of the Astra.

Derived from the Astra that Opel entered into the VLN races at Germany’s Nurburgring last year it is the most powerful Astra ever.

Luton’s engineers have shaved 100kg from the already rapid VXR version of the Astra before breathing new power into the 2.0litre petrol unit.

That engine gains an extra 20bhp, from the VXR’s 275, to make it the most powerful four-cylinder unit Vauxhall have ever produced.

That power will be routed through a six-speed manual ‘box and an almost imperative limited-slip differential, transferring the power to the huge, nine-spoke, 19-inch, alloys.

Continuing a theme of loud name, loud car, the EXTREME gets a raft of aggressive, impossible not to miss, modifications, to go with it’s outlandish moniker.

Up front a huge splitter controls airflow while the powerful engine means massive slashes to the bonnet to aid cooling.

At the rear dual, twin-exhausts replace the VXR’s duals, sitting in a faux-diffuser and a small rear wing appears at the roof, to reign all that power in, huge 370mm Brembo brakes make an appearance.

The big weight reduction is gained through a carbon roof and aluminium wings.

Inside the rear-seats wave goodbye, while Recaro race seats with bright yellow EXTREME stitching, six-point harnesses and a suede steering wheel finish off the look.

While Vauxhall haven’t released a potential price or release date but say that if reaction at Geneva next week is positive it will go into low-volume production.
