BMW will be taking the wraps off of the 2014 M3 at the Detroit Motor Show next month, but we have the full specs and pricing.
With 431 BHP and 550 NM of Torque from its 3.0 litre six cylinder engine the M3 will hit 0-62 in 4,3 seconds (with a manual box) or 4.1 seconds with the optional M DCT gearbox. Top speed is limited to 155 MPH.
Emissions are only 204 g/km (manual) and 194 g/km for the automatic, an improvement of 25% over the previous model. This is thanks to two fast responding mono-scroll turbos, direct injection, valvetronic variable timing and double vanos variable cam timing. Maximum revs are achieved at 7,600 RPM.
An electronically controlled flap helps to minimise backpressure whilst producing a striking sound throughout the rev range.
Power is fed to the rear wheels through a multi plate limited slip diff, helping keep all that torque down. The diff is controlled electronically, working with the stability control. It will allow a certain amount of slip and sliding before it cuts in and saves you from going too far.
Carbon fibre reinforced plastic is used on the roof helping save 5kgs, its also used for the driveshaft and engine strut brace.
Cut outs behind the rear wheels help keep air flowing along the sides of the car, a flat underbody also aids aerodynamics.
Electric power steering has three different input modes, Comfort, Sport, and Sport+. These modes follow through to the adaptive M suspension, changing damper settings.
BMW’s six speed manual is 12 kgs lighter than the outgoing model, it also features a downshift blip saving you heel and toeing! The automatic gearbox features a launch control mode that the manual does not, and a seventh gear.
