Its time to name our first ever car of the year!
2013 has been the first full year for Carwitter, the site has grown tremendously over these last 12 months…more than i could ever imagine when i started the site in September 2012.
So what happened in 2013? Well the site has taken on a dedicated team who contribute professional content on a regular basis. They do this purely because they have an Automotive passion and a will to write, without them Carwitter wouldn’t be the site it is today.
We have bought you reviews of some spectacular cars, from the Bentley GT Continental, Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT, and the Jaguar F-Type V6S – this we managed to secure a good few months before other independant UK blogs. We continue to do this with reviews like the new BMW i3.
But its not all about those expensive, luxury cars. Life isnt like that for most people, its nice to dream but everyday cars are our bread and butter at Carwitter.
We’ve had some crackers over the last 12 months. Who would have known the Dacia Duster was such a great car for under £11k?! The Mercedes A250 Sport was another surprise, the pace and performance it packed was staggering. We have now driven nearly every electric car on the market, Renault’s little ZOE particularly impressed us though, its styling, performance and affordability make it a great second car for around town.
Our only real disappointment of the year was the new Renault Clio, to us it just feels too big and the quicker steering rack really accentuates this in the normal models, a stiffer setup helps the Renaultsport version…but it still feels big!
We have also attended some great events, Goodwood Festival Of Speed (naturally), La Vie En Bleu (which is a must for 2014 if you have never been), to THE most exclusive car show in the country – Salon Privé.
One of our best outings however was driving a Radical SR3 RS around Silverstone’s GP circuit. Something i will never ever forgot, unreal.
This has to be the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT. It has traffic stopping looks, superb performance and a soundtrack to match. Personally this is the ONLY Merc i would ever buy.
The Suzuki Swift SZ-L. We love the Suzuki Swift Sport and thought this car would be left wanting due to its lack of power…but 92 BHP from a 1.2 is easily fun enough when combined with such a sweet chassis!
The Mazda CX-5. Its performance and hatchback like handling were excellent, Mazda’s hard work has proved that so much more can be wrung out of ICE engines.
Suzuki Swift Sport 5 Door. Yes its another Suzuki, and yes its not really a ‘hot hatch’ as it isnt packing 200 BHP and a turbo. But its high revving engine, superb handling and bargain price make it a no brainer for us!
The Honda Civic 1.6 i-DTEC. If you haven’t just spat your cornflakes across the room bare with us here…
Its an odd choice i know, but its such a great all rounder! Shed loads of room, excellent practicality, fun to drive, all whilst achieving the highest MPG of ANY car we have driven this year – 67 to be precise. We reckon the real world range on a single tank is around 500 miles, thats simply outstanding. Just a shame about the colour we had!
Most importantly I would like to thank everyone who has visited over the last 12 months, already we have lots planned for 2014 – exclusive content, new features, new reviews, new outings as well as changes to the site.
